About this course

Who is the General Practice Foundation Programme for?

The General Practice Foundation Programme (GPFP) is aimed at newly qualified dentists who
are starting their first job in the UK.

We have supported over 8,000 newly qualified dentists in the past 10 years. Over the years,
our focus is on delivering education to create safe, confident general practitioners in their
early years of dentistry.

The programme is uniquely designed to help up-skill those who have limited clinical experience
in all disciplines of general dentistry. The programme is ideal for new graduates who did not
obtain a dental foundation training position and are looking to have a structured learning
programme in their first year as a working dentist.

How will this Programme benefit you?

  • It aims to help build, refine, and strengthen clinical skills in general dentistry, thereby
    building clinical confidence and capabilities.
  • Support and fast track your performer number application.
  • Deliver more UDA’s, increase your earnings (NHS & Private) in a structured and
    ethical manner.
  • Help you understand and work effectively within the NHS system.
  • Enhance your patient communication and management.
  • Provide you with multiple dental mentors to learn and network from.
  • Creates the perfect platform to accelerate your career in dentistry.

Mentorship

We understand how important support and mentorship is within your first year of
qualification, that’s why we have created a scheme where you obtain a dedicated clinical
mentor, alongside a DTC educational mentor where you will check in regularly on your
progress, knowledge and clinical skill; freely discussing any questions in a safe and
supportive environment.

The DTC Mentors

We have relatable and experienced mentors teaching on the General Practice Foundation
Programme, all from a variety of clinical backgrounds including all specialities. Most importantly,
we have the experience of teaching young dentists from all backgrounds. From UK
Graduates, who need further support post Foundation training, to EU and overseas dentists
who are beginning their journey into UK practice. We have an excellent understanding of the
specific learning needs you have and be able to provide you with ‘real world’ mentorship.

Resource Platform

Our e-learning platform allows you to access a library of online resources to help build your
knowledge including tutorials, lectures, guidelines and videos. The platform also contributes
to your continued professional development (CPD) and helps record your evidence to submit
for your performer number application: fast tracking the process.
